the trials on a muddy track, Desi broke on top but was hit in the rear end and spun sideways which led to a chip in an ankle. He led the race for 250 yards and then began to back out, similar to what he
did for the Rainbow and All American trials, when the chip would begin to bother him. After the All American trials, surgery to remove the chip was performed but he was never the same racehorse as he had exhibited early his two year-old year.
