His sire, Easy Jet AAAT World Champion, is still known as one of the greatest influences on today's race horse and as a sire of sires. His sons repeatedly passed on his traits for speed and soundness such as Pie In The Sky si 101

Study Your Lesson

We all know the influence that Easy Jet has had on our industry has been one of major importance. His genetic ability to pass on speed from generation to generation has been recognized for years as one of the all time greats. His sons have exhibited similar capabilities of showing their siring ability among the leaders such as Pie In The Sky, Easily Smashed, Shoot Yeah, Sticks And Stones, Easy Dozen, East Jet Too (APHA) AND Deal The Cards.

Let's take a look at some of the bloodlines that make Easy Jet's pedigree so potent. Easy Jet is by Jet Deck by Moon Deck by Top Deck by Equestrian. Jet Deck is out of Miss Night Bar who was by Barred by Three Bars by Percentage. Easy Jets dam is Lena's Bar by Three Bars by Percentage. Lena's Bar is out of Lena Valenti who was out of Perhobo by Percentage. So we had a granddaughter of Percentage bred to a son of Percentage to get Easy Jet's dam. Does that cross of breeding a  “son to a granddaughter” sound familiar? Guy Ray Rutland had been doing it since the '60s.

On top, Miss Night Bar, a great granddaughter of Percentage became the dam of Jet Deck. Now take a look at Deal The Cards' bottom side. We have bred Bayou Bar, a great grandson of Percentage, to Bar Marie, a great granddaughter of Percentage. Look at all the Percentage blood we have. Now look what happens when we cross Deal The Cards back to our Bar Money (a Grandson of Percentage) mares!

Okay. Let’s take a look at Quarter Horse racing's All Time Money Earner, Eastex SI 106, Champion Twice, earning $1,869,406. Eastex was by Texas Dancer by Native Dancer and out of a daughter of Easy Jet named Tall Cotton who was out of Peggy Pueblo who was out of Miss Hljo Peggy by Hljo The Bull by Spotted Bull by
Bulldog. Carrara Marble was by Coldstream by Bulldog. Sound familiar? Special Effort is also out of a granddaughter of Bulldog.

Another cross back to Easy Jet that has worked is that which gave us Rise N High SI 109, World Champion earning $522,075. He is out of Easy Ashley by Easy Jet and sired by Hempen, who is out of Serry by Spy Song. Remember, Joyful Hope is also out of a daughter of Spy Song! Look at Pie In The Sky, SI 101, World Champion, Sire of Champions. He is by Easy Jet and out of Miss Jelly Roll by Roulade by Royal Note by Spy Song. Humm!!!  Wonder what a Joyful Hope filly crossed back to Deal The Cards would give us?  My Easy Credit, SI 99 champion, was by Easy Jet and out of a Diamond Charge mare. We have a lot of Diamond Charge bred mares.

Shoot Yeah SI 106,  Champion,  is out of a granddaughter of Three Bars and Depth Charge also. Easy Angel SI 97, champion is by Easy Jet, who carries the triple cross to Percentage. She is out of Alamitos Angel by Alamitos Bar by Three Bars. Alamitos Angel is out of Bally Deck by Top Deck, (who is Easy Jet's great grandsire.)
Easy Jet Too (APHA) SI 95, Champion Sire is by Easy Jet out of a great granddaughter of Three Bars by Hank H. Remember Pacific Bailey is by Gold Pacific who was a grandson of Hank H and Leo. Mr. Smooth Pac, of course, is by Pacific Bailey and out of Butler Smooth Lady, who goes back to Three Bars on top.  Remember that Jet Smooth is a full brother to Easy Jet. Deal The Cards has all the connections of Top Deck and Percentage through Easy Jet on top. A great grandson of Percentage was bred to a great granddaughter of Percentage to give us Deal The Card's dam, Bayou Delta Dawn, who by the way is a full sister to a World Champion, Flight 109.

Now go through and look at the pedigrees on many of these mares we have in our brood mare band. Guy Ray Rutland knew pedigrees!! It was no accident to get the breeding we have today. It's a lot like building a house. Most people can't visualize what it will be until it's almost finished. Well, the foundation and walls have been laid, and they are strong. Remember that great race horses come from mares with all kinds of race records: Dash For Cash's dam won 1 race earning $3, 134; Easy Jet Too (APHA), his dam was unraced; Marthas Six Moons' dam won 3 races, $2,117; Meridoc's dam won 1 race; Mr Trucka Jets dam won 1 race, $1,615; Pass 'em Up's dam won 1 race, $2,360; Pie In The Sky's dam was unraced. Raise The Gamble's  dam never won a race. Special Effort's dam won only $6,085.  Streakln Six's dam won 2 races; Hlgheasterjet's dam won 1 race. This goes on and on. Don't get lost in trying to find a race horse simply on how fast the sire and dam were. If the blood is there, it will happen.
